GLP SOCIAL CIRCLE
Assam,
the abode of peace, had become a hot bed of trouble since 80’s, when terrorism
reared its ugly head, threatening to tear apart the social bond amongst the different
communities living in the state. Against
this backdrop and at a most troubled and crucial period, Mr. G.L. Agarwalla
started a newspaper publication house called G.L. Publications Ltd., in 1989 with
an idea to restore sanity and rebuild the age-old bond of social harmony. He
published the 1st Hindi Daily Newspaper titled “Purvanchal Prahari”
from North-East Region followed by an English Daily Newspaper “The Meghalaya
Guardian”, another English Daily “The North-East Times” and an Assamese Daily
“Amar Asom”. Besides magazine for women called “Pubali” and “Mukuta” for
children are also published for the house.Being
a newspaper house with a social mission, the next logical step was the
establishing of a social service organisation called GLP Social Circle.GLP Social Circle was
conceived when society was in strong need of a united front against the ULFA
terror. Since then, the Social Circle has grown in work, stature and popularity
and has made several commendable contributions. The Mission of GLP Social Circle is to build bridges zof understanding
among the diverse ethnic groups of the North-East and to maintain unity
in diversity among the people belonging to different communities living
in the region. When
trouble befalls the community, GLP Social Circle with the help of its numerous
friends and well wishers as well as through its media group always tries to
help the victims.
