Activities of GLP Social Circle

Ø Year 1990-Organised a seminar to take a strong stand against the violence perpetrated by the insurgent outfit ULFA.

Ø  Year 1991- GLP Social Circle organised a Hepatitis-B Vaccination Camp in Guwahati in association with Lions Club of Brahmaputra. An eye donation camp and a Blood Donation Camp were also organised on the occasion under the supervision of the Sankardev Netralaya, Guwahati, and Assam-Gujarat Blood Bank, respectively.

Ø Year 1993- GLP Social circle contributed Rs. 4.7 lakh for the victims of the devastating earthquake at Latur in Maharashtra. The entire proceed was handed over to the Vivekananda Medical Research Centre and Hospital, Latur.

Ø Year 1993- In order to encourage extra-curricular activities among school children and nurture their artistic and other talents, GLP Social Circle floated “Times Club” exclusively for them. The Times club organized a number of art and drawing exhibitions and several talent contests among them. The Times Club elicited a widespread response in Assam.

Ø Year 1996- During the time when the ULFA and other extremism problems were rearing its head on Assam, the time when people entered their houses before 7 in the evening and no one dared to come out in the public gatherings that is when GLP Social Circle organised “Miss Pubali” and “Good Bye 96” in the year 1996. Miss Tanya B Baruah won the Miss Pubali award. GLPSC Chairman G.L. Agarwalla gave away the crown to her.

Ø Year 1997-The Hanuman Mandir situated at G.S. Road, Ulubari, Guwahati, had been in existence since many years and was visited by countless of devotees. But it was housed in a make shift shade. All that changed when G.L. Agarwalla as president of the temple committee took initiative to rebuild it and add modern facilities to the renovated structure. Today the temple wears a sparkling look attracting more number of devotees.  

Ø Year 1999-During the Kargil war in 1999, GLP Social Circle were the first to create a Veer Jawan Kosh through public donation. This was formed to provide financial relief to the North-East based families of the martyrs of the Kargil war.
Ø Year 2001-GLP Social Circle and GL Publication have been contributing handsomely towards the Assamese Literature by publishing at the behest of Assam’s apex literature body ‘Asom Sahitya Sabha’. GLP Social Circle printed a comprehensive volume of ‘Jonaki’, the first Assmese literary magazine and ‘Bahi’. Both these books were inaugurated on 31st January 2001, by Homen Borgohain and Chandra Prasad Saikia at Guwahati’s Lakhiram Baruah Sadan.
Ø Year 2002-Organised a Harmony Rally in March 2002, from Guwahati to Dihing Patkai in Tinsukia District to promote Social Integration and Communal Harmony in Assam following the horrific riots as a result of Godhra incident. The Rally was headed by Mr. H. Leh, a magician who drove a motorcycle blind folded and was accompanied by a fleet of trucks packed with the people carrying the message of unity and brotherhood. 
Ø Year 2003- GLP Social Circle on behalf of Purbottar Pradesiya Marwari Sanmilan published translated version of Tulsidas’ ‘Ramcharit Manas’ (Ramayan) in Assamese.

Ø Year 2009-In order to encourage people from various sections of the society, GLP Social Circle from the year 2009, started awarding personalities in recognition and appreciation of their outstanding services to the society by conferring on them the GLP Social Circle award.


Ø Year 2010-Statue of Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwala unveiled at Tezpur, Boithalangsho, Boko,Koliabor and Satgaon in several functions organised by GLP Social Circle in Association with Asom Sahitya Sabha.
Ø Year 2011-GLP Social Circle organises for the first time in North-East, “Nakhyatresti Mahayagya” from 19 to 24 January 2011 in Sonaram High School field under the aegis of Jagatguru Shankaracharya Swami Adhogyajanand Devtirtha Maharaj of Gobardhanpuri. The Yagya was conducted for development and harmony of North-East.
A large number of devotees from the entire region visited the shrine to seek blessings. Some prominent personalities from the region also visited.
Ø Organised seven days nonstop “Akhand Bhagawat Path” for several years consecutively in Guwahati to spread the sacred preaching of social harmony, peaceful co-existence and integrity, love and brotherhood of Mahapurush Sankardev.

Ø Worked in association with the B. Borooah Cancer Institute in Guwahati to help the cancer patients and periodically took them on sightseeing tours to various public and religious places in and around Guwahati. GLP Social Circle also organized Bihu functions at B Borooah Cancer Institute premises.

Ø For the last two decades GLP Social Circle has been organizing several health camps, viz, Diabetic Awareness Camps, Polio Treatment Camps, Cancer Detection Camps etc.

Ø Social Circle time and again, has been providing relief materials to victims of flood, fire, earthquake and communal violence etc.

Ø GLP Social Circle always celebrates the local events with great fanfare, whether it is Assamese New Year Day “Bihu”, the Holi, Magh Bihu or Raas Garba.

Ø GLP Social Circle in association with Asom Sahitya Sabha published “Assam 1864”
