Dead Body Carrying Van & Ambulance Service

This was probably the first time that people in Guwahati heard of “Hearse” or it’s utility. It was in the early 90’s, that the GLP Social Circle Chairman, Mr. G.L Agarwalla came out with the idea of providing the people with ambulance services and dead body carrying vans or hearses. Till then people used to carry their dead by foot to the crematorium or in open trucks or by some other means. At the same time since a large number of people from outside Assam or within different districts of Assam do live in Guwahati, they always wanted the dead to be brought to their home soil for cremation or burial. This was a problem as there were no facilities existed to carry the dead bodies to such long distances. Taking into account this need of the people, GLP Social Circle introduced the first ever hearse service in the North-East.
